withoutequal FAQs

Here we have complied a list of some of questions we get asked a lot.

What insurance do you have?

  • This, we believe, is one of the most important questions.  All of our equipment is insured under a specialist policy, so in the unlikely event something happens to our equipment in the run up to your wedding or portrait session, we can replace it without it hopefully affecting the shoot.  We are also fully insured for Public Liability and Professional Indemnity.

What this SWPP I see a fwe times on your website?

  • The SWPP is the Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers and is a great society for us to members of.  Only professional photographers can be members and they expect a high level of quality from their members.  Click here to visit The SWPP website.

Can I buy more products from you?

  • Of course!  We have a fabulous range of products for you, from wall hangings to albums and photo books.  If there is anything you’d like that you don’t see, please enquire and we can give you a quote.

Do you keep my details safe?

  • Yes.  We are fully compliant with the Data Protection Act 1998. All our data and our clients’ data is held on passworded hard drives.

Who owns the copyright to the images? You or me?

  • This topic is one of the most misunderstood in photography.  We own the copyright under The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, we do however provide you with a reproduction licence if you choose the disc option.  Please read my Copyright post here.

How long do you keep my photos?

  • Currently we state that we keep your images for 12 months.

What processing do you do to my images?

  •  We do some processing – we’ll remove minor skin blemishes and if on location, litter from the background, and so on.  However, if you’d prefer some extra image processing to your images, then we can discuss your needs and  give you a quote.

What deposits do you ask for?

  •  We ask for a non-refundable booking fee of £500 to secure your wedding date and then we ask for the remaining amount to be paid 60 days before your wedding.  With our portrait sessions, we ask for a £50 non-refundable booking fee to secure you date and then the remaining amount to be paid 7 days before the portrait session.

What cameras do you use?

  •  We have two Canons; a 1Ds and a 5D. Both are great professional cameras for capturing weddings and portraits.  We also have a great range of studio lights and portable lighting.

I’ve heard some photographers only shoot in natural light. Does this mean they won’t shoot indoors?

  • Not neccesarily.  They may be able to make use of windows and doors  to let in extra light.  However, we have extensive experience in shooting in all kinds of light, indoors and out, daytime and nighttime, and we have our portable lighting equipment, so we are usually able to shoot in most places.  If there are any problems, we will discuss this with you before hand.

Do I get all my images? What are these RAW files?

  •  RAW files are the files that the camera uses and which are then converted to jpgs.  They are similar in theory to the negatives from the old style film cameras.  We give you the high res jpg files if you purchase a disc which will give you images of excellent quality to print out up to 10×8 inch size prints.  If you require larger size files, please discuss this with us.

What if the weather is bad?

  •  Well, living the UK means this is a real possibility with any outdoor shoot.  We do our best to carry on and always have a spare umbrella in our car boot :)   But if the weather is intent on defeating us, then we are happy to  rearrange the portrait session.  If the weather is bad on your wedding day, then we use our experience and lighting knowledge to take advantage of the inside of the venue to get your wedding images.  We cannot promise good weather on any day, but we always try to have a Plan B which takes bad weather into account.

Do you cover parties? Like birthdays or anniversaries?

  •  We love parties and love covering them!  We have covered birthday and anniversary parties and other celebration such as first holy communions and charity events.

Wedding Photography FAQs

I’ve booked you as my wedding photographer, what happens next?

  • Depending how far ahead your wedding date is, we get in touch roughly once every two months to see how you’re doing and if there have been any changes to the wedding plans.  We contact you two weeks before to finalise the timetable of the day, and as we only cover one wedding per day if there are any last minute changes we are usually able to accommodate these.

Do you travel?

  •  Yes, we are happy to travel to anywhere for a wedding or a portrait session.  We would especially love invites to the South of France in the summer ;)   We do have a policy of charging extra for travelling outside our area, and if it’s for a wedding, then we may discuss a night in a local B&B to ensure we arrive nice and early the next morning.

How soon can we have our wedding album?

  •  We aim to have your book of preview wedding images to you within 2 weeks.   Then once we design the album or photo book and order it from our suppliers, it should take another 3-4 weeks.  we do keep you up to date with the approximate time of when your order is ready.

Portrait Photography FAQs

It’s the day of our family shoot with you, but the kids are ill!  What can we do?

  • We always do our best to rearrange to a date when we and you are free.  However, if the portrait session is cancelled altogether, then we retain the non-refundable booking fee.

You state you shoot for 90 minutes at the portrait sessions. Does this mean 90 minutes from when we arrive at your studio or when we meet?

  •  We mean the actual session will last 90 minutes, we always give ourselves plenty of time and our policy is never to book two sessions or weddings in one day.  This gives you time to prepare and chat about any last minute thoughts you’ve had.

What should we wear for a portrait session?  Can we bring along toys for the kids?

  •  Wear whatever you’d like!  There is a trend for families to wear coordinating outfits, such as jeans and white t-shirts. If you prefer for the inidividual look, then that’s great as well.  We can even discuss a change of outfits if time allows us.  And bring along plenty of toys and props for the kids.  We aim for our portrait sessions to be as much fun as possible; the complete opposite to the stuffy portraits from years ago.

Is there a limit to the number of people in my family portrait session? Can I bring the grandparents along?

  • While there is no limit,  we do ask that you are realistic!  A whole family tree portrait session will probably need a special bespoke portrait session.  However, it is fine to chat to us about inviting the grandparents along to join in with a family session.

How soon can we have our portrait album?

  • We aim to have your album or photo book ready within 3-4 weeks of the portrait session.  We do keep you up to date with the progress of your order.
